Conditional format with if

Hello All,

how can reference another cell using conditional format?

For exampe: in I436 is used as a date, and i want it to change to yellow =IF(Z436<12,1,1)

and also another criteria change it to red =IF(Z436<12,1,1)

I think I am close but i am missing something..

Please help
