Hi guys :) hopefully just a quick one
i would like a cell to change colour when i put a short date in it ie 7-jul, i would also like the 2 cells before that one to change to a different colour.

so say date in C1, same time cells A1 and B1 change colour.
i know how to do conditional formatting but cant think of a way to put it in ??

all help appriciated

Excel Facts

Remove leading & trailing spaces
Save as CSV to remove all leading and trailing spaces. It is faster than using TRIM().
Hi Andrew, where /how would i enter that ?? i have just tried and all it does is make the cell change colour even before i enter anything into it ??
sorry to be stupid

Select A1:C1 and choose Format|Conditional Formatting from the menu. Condition 1 Formula is:

=ISNUMBER($C1)

choose a Format and click OK twice. The cells won't be formatted until you enter a date (or a number) in C1.

I wouldn't recommend Conditional Formatting for an entire sheet...

Do you really mean the ENTIRE sheet? or perhaps only A1 through say Z1000 ?

Ye that would be fine , i have a set of 60 names A1:A70,then a set of weekending dates from B1:ZZ1 which i keep moving along as i need . i need to see each person on different dates (not set to any specific dates) spread over a year. So what i am after is that when i enter a date onto the sheet it will highlight.

Cheers
