I need to change the conditonal formatting of a cell based on the content of 2 other cells.

I need to format G3 based on the values of E3 and F3.

Basis 1) If E3 doesn't contains the word Other then fill grey - solved using formula $G3<>"Other"

Basis 2) If F3 DOES contain the word "Other" then fill white.

Can anyone help with the code for Basis 2 please as $E3="Other" fails due to Excel treating it all as text.

Hi,

2) works fine for me.. When you say "contains" do you mean that the cell is "Other" or something like "... Other ..."?

What do you mean by "..fails due to Excel treating it all as text."?

Cell F3 is a dependant drop down list, so based on the contents of E3 it will change. Therefore the selections will change, but only one selection will be the text "Other".

So, if the text in F3 is selected and the value is the text of "Other" then I want cell G3 to be filled in White.

In excel 2003 when I use the following code: $E3="Other" excel starts to wrap additional quotes around the formula as though it is treating it as text. Even if I modify the formula, it again treats it like a text value.

Is there something I am missing?

Didn't work.

However, I restarted excel and now it seems to allow me to enter that.

Thanks very much :)
