Big time lurker and this is actually the first time i have to post a problem because i didnt find the answer.

Sry for my english, not my first language... anyway..

I have a spreadsheet with some project data..
these projects have 4 stages each and i need to set a color in the row of each project depending on the stage the project is in

so i made 4 little columns before the projects and i put an X (can be any other symbol) i would like to know how to make it so when i put an X in the first column, the whole row becomes red for example.. and if i put the X in the second column the row becomes yellow, and so on

for now i do it by hand but its a lot of data and i lose a lot of time doing it

i tried with conditional formatting but i couldnt do it

any help is appreciated, thanks in advance

Excel Facts

Which lookup functions find a value equal or greater than the lookup value?
MATCH uses -1 to find larger value (lookup table must be sorted ZA). XLOOKUP uses 1 to find values greater and does not need to be sorted.
Perhaps like this: select the whole range and apply the Conditional Formatting

Excel Workbook
ABCDEFG
1X
2XX
3XXX
4XXXX
Sheet1
Cells with Conditional Formatting
CellConditionCell FormatStop If True
A11. / Formula is =$D1="X"Abc
A12. / Formula is =$C1="X"Abc
A13. / Formula is =$B1="X"Abc
A14. / Formula is =$A1="X"Abc

Select all the rows you want to format.

Goto conditional formatting and select 'Use a formula to determine....'.

Enter this formula:

=$A2="x"

and format as red.

Enter this formula:

=$B2="x"

and format as yellow.

You might need to change the column and row for these formulas to match where the values you want to use are in your worksheet.
