Hi,

Not sure if this is my best approach but I am building a holiday tracking spreadsheet at work. Our employees work multiple different shift patterns. Some work set days and some work an 8 week rolling rota.

I am trying to simplify the process by automating highlighting employees days off by selecting their shift pattern. Any other tips if I am going down the wrong route will be appreciated.

My plan is to be able to highlight their days off, then I will create a tab on the 1st page that keeps track of their holiday totals and I hope to be able to create an error message if someone has booked too many but I will be a bit away from that.

I have attached a screenshot of an example.

Excel Facts

Repeat Last Command
Pressing F4 adds dollar signs when editing a formula. When not editing, F4 repeats last command.
Unfortunately, your need isn't very clear to me. Maybe others on the list can understand it.

I can't promise that I can do what is needed but I'll try. If not me then possibly other people who are smarter about Excel.

Pictures are not very helpful. If the data is not confidential hopefully you could post a link to your workbook. Or you can enter fake-but-realistic data before providing the link. Put the file on Dropbox, Box, 1Drive, Google Drive etc. Use the link icon above the message area.

Or, consider sharing relevant data using Mr Excel's excellent XL2BB addin that enables you to post a portion of a worksheet. See XL2BB - Excel Range to BBCode for details.

I suspect that you'll need a VBA code solution that does what is needed. You might have to get permission form IT people to do that.
