I have an excel table of data with the starting row in row 10. I would like to setup a dynamic conditional format to show the Top 1 for a specific column in the table, (not the whole column D) I can't use "=C12=max(Sheet2!D:D)", because it includes values in Column D Rows 1-9, I tried "=C12=max(table1[Amount])", but that won't work either. Ideas!

Did you know Excel offers Filter by Selection?
Add the AutoFilter icon to the Quick Access Toolbar. Select a cell containing Apple, click AutoFilter, and you will get all rows with Apple
Can you not define a large enough range to account for most situations, if not all?

Excel Formula:
=C12=max(Sheet2!D10:D1000)

How about
Excel Formula:
=C12=max(indirect("table1[Amount]"))
