Hi everyone,

Is there a way to perform conditional formatting in Excel 2007 where the rule applies to another worksheet?

I want my custom rule to highlight certain cells if a condition is met, with one of the cells in another worksheet. maybe VBA?

Appreciate your response.

James

Excel Facts

What is the last column in Excel?
Excel columns run from A to Z, AA to AZ, AAA to XFD. The last column is XFD.

If you can be more specific we'll have a better idea if can be done with conditional formatting.

I want to conditionally format column A to highlight any changes that are made to an existing list of names. So that original list has been copied and pasted to another worksheet, as I only want input values on this worksheet.

For the worksheets called "inputs" column A, conditional formatting formula I want is "=A3<>Workings!C3", that is, if the text in column A has been changed (as this spreadsheet will be distributed and people may make changes to this column) then the cell will be highlighted yellow.

Is there a way to do this? as referencing another worksheet in conditional formatting is not allowed in Excel 2007.

Thanks

You can reference another sheet, you just can't do it directly.

For example, this will do what you want:

=A3<>INDIRECT("Workings!C3")
