Conditional Formula

I need a formula to facilitate the following condition(s):
The recipient cell (W9), is to be filled with an "X" any time cell H9 is not blank...if this condition is not met, the recipient cell is to remain blank.

Thanks...That definitely works.. Now the next issue is I want to count the number of times the "X" appears in column W. I've tried using COUNTA(W8:W2550) but it appears to simply return the number of times the formula that appears in column W. Help?

You would need to use the countifs function.

Thanks again... With a bit of trial and error I found that the following function worked: =COUNTIF(W8:W2550,"?") Any other configuration the formula was counting the formula embedded in column W. This seems to limit the search for an answer to only those cells in column W with a single text character.

If you want to count the Xs you should use

=COUNTIF(W8:W2550,"x")
