I was wondering how to make the value of a cell change, Example:

if you enter an * into a cell I want the value to be a Green checkmark

and if you enter a B into the cell I want it to be a Red X

I have tried to use the Icon set from conditional formatting but I cant get it to work

Excell 2007

Thanks

Excel Facts

Quick Sum
Select a range of cells. The total appears in bottom right of Excel screen. Right-click total to add Max, Min, Count, Average.
If you want a red X, why not just enter an X into the cell and conditionally format the cell for red when an X is entered?

If you want a green checkmark when the asterisk key is entered, you can use VBA but I would recommend you keep things simple, forego the asterisk for the upper case letter P and format the cell as WingDings2. Then CF for upper case P.
