Conversion of hh:mm:ss to seconds

o_O Feeling a bit dim today so can anyone help?

I have a download into excel that provides an anser in hours, minutes and seconds. eg 00:04:14

i want to convert this to seconds, i.e 254

Any ideas?

Dates are stored as integers and times (i.e. "part days") as fractions. 1 hour = 1/24 days, etc. Therefore:

=(cell)*24*60*60
Just make sure you change the cell format, or you might get "00:00:00" displayed! ;)

It depends on what you want it for. If you just want to change the format, use a custom number format of [ss] and you'll see 254.

If you want to have the seconds as integers then use a formula in an other cell to convert it:

=A1*24*60*60
formatted as a number, instead of time.
