convert minutes to a decimal

Hello all,

I have to calculate time in six minute increments, so if a task takes six minutes or less, it is ".1", if it takes more than six minutes but twelve minutes or less, it should display ".2" and so on with one hour being shown as "1.0". On my excel sheet I have a start time of say 10:00 AM, and a stop time of say 10:11 AM. Subtracting the time to get the elapsed time of :11 is already done, but, what I need is to now convert the :11 to display as .2.

The formula I have already tried to no avail is: if(and (C3>:06,C3<=:12), .1, "" ), which returns "The formula you entered contains an error...)

What is the proper way to input the formula to achieve the desired results? I believe I will have to nest several "if and" statements to account for all 10 possible decimals, which is fine, but I can't seem to get the first one correct.

As always, any and all help is appreciated!

Format the cell as number then use

=CEILING(C3*24,0.1)

edit:- to clarify, format the cell with this formula as number, not C3.

Wow! I didn't know about that formula at all, thanks so much. I also checked this formula using various stop times, and it works perfectly. Thank you so much!

You're welcome :)

The simple answers are often the most evasive.
