Converting a cell format

I have longitude in the format of:

hhh;mm;ss.s w

excel will not recognize this as anything but "general"

I want to change it into text with the format

-hhh-mm-ss.s

how can i do this?

what does

=isnumber(ref)

...return for one of your cells with the longitude in?
