converting from .xls file to .txt file using c#

Try this (not tested): In XL turn on the macro recorder (Tools | Macro > Record new macro...) do whatever it is you want by hand and turn off the recorder. In most cases XL/VBA will generate the necessary VBA code using the relevant properties and methods. You can than translate that into C#.
