copy range seems divided, and self-filters?

Hi.

I have a range containing formulas, most of which are simply of the form =somecelltotheleft.
When I select that range and hit CTRL-C the range highlight becomes divided into sections by dotted lines; the sections don't seem to have any logic in terms of the sections of the range to the left that is determining most of the structure of the formula range I am copying.

Then, when I paste special the values to a new location, a few of the lines have disappeared.

Any idea what is going on?

Also, if the need arises to attach the file to this board, how do I do that?

Many thanks for any hints.

Excel Facts

Repeat Last Command
Pressing F4 adds dollar signs when editing a formula. When not editing, F4 repeats last command.
I see that effect when some of the rows are filtered out, especially when I goto Visible Cells Only. Are you filtering that worksheet?
