Copying Conditional Formatting Formula

Hi,
I've got a very simple Conditional Formatting Formula in cell A1 as follows:
=C1>D1 which turns cell green if true.
I want to copy this formula down the rest of the column, but the cell references do not change.
I've tried using the format painter and I've also tried selecting the whole column before entering the formula, but the cell references still don't change. There are no dollar signs, so the cell references are not fixed.

Anyone know a way around this? I'm sure I must be something wrong somewhere along the line!

Thanks for your help,

Chris.

Excel Facts

VLOOKUP to Left?
Use =VLOOKUP(A2,CHOOSE({1,2},$Z$1:$Z$99,$Y$1:$Y$99),2,False) to lookup Y values to left of Z values.
That should work... have you tried copying the cell and then pasting formulas?

One thing you could check is if the spreadsheet is set to manual calculation. Try pressing F9 to see if it updates.

Thanks for replying. I can't use the "paste formulas" option, as the cell already contains a different formula to the Conditional Formatting formula.

I have also checked that workbook calculation is set to 'automatic'.

I'm sure this must be something simple that I'm missing.
