Copying conditional formatting in Excel 2010

Hello Everyone,

I can't get conditional formatting to copy to other cells where the condition i am using is: Format only cells that contain... I have a series of percentages in a column with a national percentage at the bottom and i want to colour them dependent on how those percentages above rank, equal to or greater than the national rate.
I can get the formatting to work for one column of data but if i 'format-paint' the formatting to another column, exactly the same number of members and argument, the condition references my original national percentage not my new one. I have tried removing dollar-signs etc but am still not able to get the formatting to work.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Regards,

Rob

You can teach Excel a new custom list. Type the list in cells, File, Options, Advanced, Edit Custom Lists, Import, OK
In the first column, try removing the $ sign before the column letter, but leave the $ sign before the row number. Then try the format painter

Hello Peter,

Yes, that worked a treat, thank you. It is a bit frustrating that extra steps have to be taken to achieve what was a simple step in previous Excel versions. Thank goodness for folk like you, i would have gone round in circles otherwise.

To some extent I agree, but ...

- there are more options in the newer versions, and

- wouldn't this particular exercise have been pretty much the same process in Excel 2003-?
