count cells based on multiple criteria

I Have some data which is based on the rough example below. In row 5 is a random series of manually entered "x"s and "c"s with thr rest being blank. I would like, if possible to have a formula that counts to total amount of "x"s and "c"s in row 5. So in this case the result would be 6.
