Count Characters in text string across multiple cells at the same time

Hi
I watched "Excelisfun" video 223 about counting the characters in a text string. This works but only for one cell at a time. I want to know how many "a"s are in 20 cells combined.
 

Excel Facts

Enter current date or time
Ctrl+: enters current time. Ctrl+; enters current date. Use Ctrl+: Ctrl+; Enter for current date & time.
