im trying to count the number of values in a column that are greater than 43, cant seem to get it....

=COUNTIF(OPEN!$H:$H,>42) would have been my assumption, apparently you cant do that.

Excel Facts

Select a hidden cell
Somehide hide payroll data in column G? Press F5. Type G1. Enter. Look in formula bar while you arrow down through G.

You need some quotes

=COUNTIF(OPEN!$H:$H,">42")

Also, I'd recommend using a smaller range if possible. Waste of time checking over a million rows if you are only using a few hundred, say

=COUNTIF(OPEN!$H2:$H1000,">42")
