In my Excel 2007 workbook sheet one keeps track of jobs performed by date, category and a few other data types. The second sheet summarizes the data in a monthly report.

On sheet 1, column A contains the dates, and column E contains the categories.

On sheet 2, cell C2 has the report start date, and cell E2 has the report end date.

In the end I want to count the number of jobs between the start and end dates that match the category "computer".

Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Excel Facts

Move date out one month or year
Use =EDATE(A2,1) for one month later. Use EDATE(A2,12) for one year later.
Try

=SUMPRODUCT(--(Sheet1!A1:A100>=C2),--(Sheet1!A1:A100<=E2),--(Sheet1!E1:E100="computer"))
