Count various monthly work shifts

In the June time sheet if
B1 - AE1 is the days of the month
B2 - AE2 is the days of the week
B3 - AE3 is the various working shifts M,A,N,O,S for each staff of the month
Is it possible to have a formular to automatically calculate the number of M,A...etc at the end of each row for each staff ? IE 10M,6A etc,etc

If column B3 to B23 is Monday and I need 5M, 8A and 4N shift is it possible to write a formular which is smart enough to tell if I don't have enough M or A or N shift then give me a count of shortfall such as -1M or -1A etc. Because more shift is ok but less could be a problem. TIA !

I don't see why we couldn't figure out a formula, but without data we're flying blind here.

If you are saying all of your codes start in B2 and go down, I would assume starting in C2 you have a count for that code and then why not in D2 a simple this number - that number and this would give you either a plus or minus.

Column C,D,E shows shifts allocation each day. Row 29-31 show the breakdown of various shifts required each day. Row 35 just show total headcount require for the day. Is it possible to creat a formular to show if there is a shortfall for a shift or just the headcount of a day ? There are 4 M shifts because it starts at different hours of the day but the formular can group these as a M. TIA

Forgive me but this is still not quite clear to me. When you say shortfall, can you give an example based on your data what is a shortfall?

Sorry for not making my question clear. What I want is there is an indication on row 34 above the total headcount row 35 ie -1M,or -1C etc. This way I know which day I am short of man without going through the whole worksheet day by day. TIA

Thanks for your prompt reply. I pasted the formular to C34 and I got a 1 in this cell.
I intentionally remove a M shift from column C to see if C34 can change to reflect that I am 1 M shift short but it still show 1. Am I doing anything wrong ?

I just changed the formular to (C25:C27)="M" and C34 show a 0 and when I remove a M in column C then C34 change to 1. So the formular seems working but it can only show 1 regardless +1 more than require or -1 one man short. Also can this formular look at other shift as well ie C or E ?
