Col. A contains a list of values I need to evaluate for duplicates. I have an instance of this value- GW1TIANCRT54 that exists three times, I can search on this value and find it in the respective cells: A5595, A12811, A15600.
My countif function only shows its occurrence of 1 in the results in the corresponding cell where the formula resides-
So-
=COUNTIF(A:A,A5595) displays 1
=COUNTIF(A:A,A12811) displays 1
=COUNTIF(A:A,A15600) displays 1

Which all three cells ref. should show 3. Clicking in the source cell, the values do not show a leading or a trailing space.

Any ideas where to check?

Spell Check in Excel
Press F7 to start spell check in Excel. Be careful, by default, Excel does not check Capitalized Werds (whoops)
Have you tried using the CLEAN function on the data to see if it makes any difference?

Thanks Dom,
I ran ASAP utilities on the data, remove leading and trailing spaces and this resolved it. I should have tried this first. But as I wrote initially, this data does not indicate that there are any spaces.

Thanks for the tip...
