I am trying to use a CountIf statement where the range in which I am counting consists of cells that are not adjacent. I could do this with a named range, but this is in a case where I want to be able to copy the formala to a bunch of different cells without having to create many named ranges ......... any help would be appreciated.

Excel Facts

Select all contiguous cells
Pressing Ctrl+* (asterisk) will select the "current region" - all contiguous cells in all directions.
For example I want to count the number of times I get the word "Pass" in cells A1,C1,E1,G1 ........ all odd columns.

=SUMPRODUCT(--(MOD(COLUMN(A1:G1)-COLUMN(A1)+0,2)=0),--(A1:G1="Pass"))
