In the above table - HD = half day , Ab = Absent
the numbers in RED color is for Late time .

Now I need a formula which will count Ab & HD and give a proper result.
For example in Row 1 , there are 3 HD (Half day) and 2 Ab(Absent).
so the final result in H1 should be 3 HD *0.5 + 2 Ab = 3.5

is this possible with a formula.

I tried using Countif() but it does not count both HD & Ab.

Similary i need a formula which count only those numbers in RED.

Excel Facts

Can you sort left to right?
To sort left-to-right, use the Sort dialog box. Click Options. Choose "Sort left to right"
Hi

You could separate out the COUNTIF terms (ie do a Countif with "HD" and one with "Ab") or you could do it like this:

=SUM(COUNTIF(A1:G1,{"HD","Ab"})*{0.5,1})

To count by colour you would need to use VBA - is this an option for you?
