I am using the following formula (that works) - =COUNTIF(Masterdata!C:C,"New Customer")

Is there a way that I can include additional criteria? So for example, if I wanted to count if text contains New Customer or Old Customer?

Perhaps this is the best way to do this?
=COUNTIF(Masterdata!C:C,"New Customer")+COUNTIF(Masterdata!C:C,"Old Customer")

When did Power Query debut in Excel?
Although it was an add-in in Excel 2010 & Excel 2013, Power Query became a part of Excel in 2016, in Data, Get & Transform Data.
What version of Excel are you using?

I suggest that you update your Account details (or click your user name at the top right of the forum) so helpers always know what Excel version(s) & platform(s) you are using as the best solution often varies by version. (Don’t forget to scroll down & ‘Save’)

Try
Excel Formula:
=SUM(COUNTIFS(Masterdata!C:C,{"New Customer","Old Customer"}))
