countifs question

I want to use the "countifs" formula to add the number of times the letter "Y" OR the letter "S" appears in this column. For example, Cells Y5:Y80 contain blanks, "Y" or "S". I want to count the number of times "Y" or "S" appears. How would I want that formula. Thanks.

Depends on your keyboard...

Standard US Keyboard, they are just to the right of the letter p
You must hold SHIFT when you press the key.

On QWERTY systems, they come after the P key and they are above [ and ]...

Here's another one...

Use cells to hold the criteria:

• A1 = Y
• B1 = S

Then:

=SUMPRODUCT(--(ISNUMBER(MATCH(Y5:Y80,A1:B1,0))))
