i'm having trouble counting certain cells within a row which contain the value "0". the cells are 2 places apart from each other in the row.

i've tried using =COUNTIF((E8,G8,I8,K8,M8,O8,Q8,S8,U8,W8,Y8,AA8,AC8,AE8,AG8,AI8,AK8,AM8,AO8,AQ8,AS8,AU8,AW8,AY8),"0")

But all i got was an error on screen

can anyone help???

Excel Facts

Lock one reference in a formula
Need 1 part of a formula to always point to the same range? use $ signs: $V$2:$Z$99 will always point to V2:Z99, even after copying
Try;
=SUMPRODUCT(--(MOD(COLUMN(E8:AY8),2)),--(E8:AY8=0),--(LEN(E8:AY8)=1))

Robert Mika is correct, although placing the zero in quotes isn't needed. (at least it isn't in 2007)

i can't use =COUNTIF(D8:AY8,0) as it's counting the cells with "0" that i don't want it to count
