I have a column in my spreadsheet that contains dates of mail coming in and another that contains dates of responses to this mail. I want to use a formula to count how many letters coming in have not been responded to i.e.

Column A = date of receipt
Column B = date of response

I know this would invlove counting the blanks in column B but I only want to count the blanks in that column if there is a date entered in column A.

Thanks

Excel Facts

How can you automate Excel?
Press Alt+F11 from Windows Excel to open the Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) editor.
Code:
{=sumproduct(if(A1:A10<>"",1,0),if(B1:B10="",1,0))}

Entered via CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER. Adjust your range to suit your needs.

One way...

=SUMPRODUCT(--(A2:A10<>""),--(B2:B10=""))

Assumes A2:A10 will contain dates only.

Enter formula :

=SUMPRODUCT((A2:A1000<>"")*(B2:B1000=""))
