Counting!!

I have in column A, sheet 1 names.

How can I count the number of cells in this ENTIRE column (A:A) containing data. (numbers and text).

The Count function does not work since it counts the number of cells that contain numbers.
The CountA does not also works because I select as a range the entire column and I have blankformulas in some cells. (it takes these into account as well).
