Create Pattern Numbers

Excel Facts

Create a chart in one keystroke
Select the data and press Alt+F1 to insert a default chart. You can change the default chart to any chart type
Enter the first 4 values in the first 4 cells.

A1: 1
A2: 1
A3: 2
A4: 2

Then in A5 put this formula and copy the cell downward as far as needed:

A5: =A1

Thanks for the quick reply. Is that possible to use function MOD and INT to create this particular pattern numbers?

Why would you want to? Never substitute a simple answer for a complex one "just because". It would need to serve a meaningful purpose.

I agree 100% with the last post. However, for the mental exercise, yes it is possible to use INT and MOD. Put this in A1 and copy down:-
Code:
=CHOOSE(INT(MOD(ROW(),4)+1),2,1,1,2)
Simple is almost always best though.

Hi

I agree with Jerry, if you have a simple solution use it.

Just for the fun, another one, in A1 and copy down:

=1+ISODD((ROW()-1)/2)
