Creating inventory with excel

We have a warehouse, we buy a bunch of foodtruck items..big and small items. I been told to start an inventory of the items and i know enough to seek help with excel. Can excel help me? Doesn't matter if its a simple layout, I have a laser barcode scanner, and thats about it. Not sure how to start, do i make barcodes? or what must i do? I want to scan things coming in and going out, possibly in the future we will be selling parts on our website and Im pretty sure ill be in charge of that. Thanks in advance!

You can create something in Excel, but honestly, invest in some inventory management software, especially if you're going to go online for sales.
