I am trying to use a custom cell format that essentially divides a number by 1,000,000. The result would show 233.9 instead of 233,913,345, (76.8) instead of -76,788,123 and so forth. For some reason, I can't get the right format. Thanks.

What is the shortcut key for Format Selection?
Ctrl+1 (the number one) will open the Format dialog for whatever is selected.
The custom format to acheive what you want would be

0.0,,

that is, a zero, a decimal period, a zero, and two commas.
