Data Table Issue in Excel 2007

Hello,
I'm creating a data table in Excel 2007. Is it possible to set the row input cell or the column input cell to a cell that is on a different tab of the same workbook? I get a "Input cell reference not valid" error when I try to do so.
Does anyone have a work-around?

Excel Facts

Return population for a City
If you have a list of cities in A2:A100, use Data, Geography. Then =A2.Population and copy down.
