Data Vaidation List Box

Working with Excel 2007,
" Data Validation" making a Drop down list box.

What I want to know, is that once you click on the drop down list box arrow and it shows the list, then you pick an item in the list.
Can you have that "pick item" from the list be sent to a cell within a grid per built grid?
I guess I'm asking can a list in a list box be made to do this automatic with out the user doing the same. This could cut out a step in building a grid plateform.
