Date calculations

I've enjoyed learning a lot from this forum, but I've added in complications that take this query beyond my capability.

Column A is the start date
Column B is the end date
Column C is the length of time in days between start and end
Eg A = 01/01/2000, B = 03/01/2000 then C = 2
However, if A is empty, C should remain empty. If A contains a date but B is empty, C should calculate number of days up to today's date.

Ideas gratefully received
