I am trying to get ddd from mm/dd/yyyy in a formula, not in an Excel macro. ddd represents the first three characters of the day of the week.

The date mm/dd/yyyy is in col B. I want ddd in col A. I know in VBA, I can write format(MyDate, "ddd").

I tried, in C2 the formula =Format(B2,"ddd"). That doesn't seem to work.

Thanks

Excel Facts

Convert text numbers to real numbers
Select a column containing text numbers. Press Alt+D E F to quickly convert text to numbers. Faster than "Convert to Number"
Instead try
Excel Formula:
=TEXT(B2,"ddd")

Thank you to both repliers. Both answers work. Since I must mark one correct response, I choose the first
