Hi all,

I've had a look for an answer to this query but I can't find anything specific

I've got a data series that I am using to generate a pivot chart. In the series I have a column populated with dates like this: 04/04/2011 although in the formula bar the dates display like 04/04/2011 12:00:00.

I can use the =TEXT( function to change this into a mmm yyyy format but when I generate a pivot chart the field is grouping in alphabetical order due to the field being text rather than date. I also cannot group the field.

Is there a way that I can extract the month and year from my 04/04/2011 12:00:00 date into another column, have it display in date format as (e.g.) APR 2011 and group correctly (by month/ year) on the pivot chart?

Kind Regards

Colin

Excel Facts

Why does 9 mean SUM in SUBTOTAL?
It is because Sum is the 9th alphabetically in Average, Count, CountA, Max, Min, Product, StDev.S, StDev.P, Sum, VAR.S, VAR.P.
I dont think you need to change the date at all.

There is functionality withing the Pivot Table Settings to group by date
