Day of the week against date...please help!

Hello, I am trying to find an easy way of having the day of the week show up against a list of dates I have on a spreadsheet. I would like the relevant day of the week show up against the date I have. Is there a quicker way of doing this than by doing a v-lookup, which is what I tried to do?
