Cant seem to get my head around how to get this to work

I have entries in an excel date, I have extracted the day of the week that the event occurred.

I need a pivot table to how many times the event occured on say mondays, tuesdays etc.

Cant seem to make it work, its treating the days like dates, stuck on how to get the number of events on a each day of the week, to date.

any suggestions?

Excel Facts

VLOOKUP to Left?
Use =VLOOKUP(A2,CHOOSE({1,2},$Z$1:$Z$99,$Y$1:$Y$99),2,False) to lookup Y values to left of Z values.
What function did you use to convert the date to day of week?

If you use =weekday(date), it will convert to a number 1 thru 7. You can do a pivot with weekday on column field.

I use =text(date,"ddd") to generate the day of the week as a text string instead of =weekdate(date) which returns a number.
