Definition & Difference between Selection and ActiveCell

I am a college student.I would like a good Definition & Difference between Selection and ActiveCell.

If Selection is a Range object (it can be other objects) it can consist of more than one cell, either contiguous or noncontiguous. But that range always has only one active cell - the one surrounded by the black box.
