My IT department just upgraded my pc to Windows 7 and Excel 2003 and I am struggling to get Excel to function the way that I am used to.

Does Excel 2003 still have the function that collpses/hides the unused items on the Menu's along the top? Previous Excel would hide the unused options wit a little arrow at the bottom allowing you to open up and go to an option not used very often. I've been on this version for over a week and it has not colapsed and hidden those options I do not tend to use.

Anyway I can get that function back?

Thanks.

Excel 2003 does not have that feature, which, although you liked it, was not well-received by the masses when it came with your prior version. I doubt you can "get it back" with 2003, maybe some utility out there does that, but I am curious about your wording, where you were just upgraded to 2003 which is 2 versions and 8 years ago. At this point, Microsoft will not adjust the traditional menu interface in versions such as you are speaking of, because their focus moving forward is the ribbon, which cause much more angst with that change in 2007 than the collapsible menu items. So, and I say this with all respect because we are in the same boat with stuff like this, how those prior versions are will be how they stay.

Hello excel?,

Give this a try, provided you have Excel 2003 menus showing...

Right click the main menu bar.
Select Customize...
Click the Options tab
If the check box "Always show full menus" is checked, click it to clear it.
Set the "Menu animations" to "Slide"

Sincerely,
Leith Ross

Yikes, I totally forgot about that and Leith Ross is absolutely correct, I was wrong, thanks Leith for pointing that out.

Thank you so much for your response.

Leith, you were spot on. That did exactly as I had hoped.

Tom, I appreciate your feedback. As you said, 2003 is so "2 versions and 8 years ago", but we use what our company provides and try to keep our complaints to a minimum. Thankfully, I have such great support with you and Leith and the rest of the group here on MREXCEL.COM. This group has rescued me a number of times.

Til next time....

Thanks.
