"Double" Workbooks open from one file name

In Excel 97. I opened a workbook file named "Completed Hours", and was working in it, when I noticed that the file name in the menu bar said "Completed Hours:2". Checking the files that were open under "Window" showed two files open, "Completed Hours:1" and "Completed Hours:2".

Changes to either workbook seem to be added to each after saving, but formatting added to "...:2" do not always get saved. In all directories in my computer, the workbook shows as only one file. There are no custom viewss, no versions, nothing that I know of that could make this occur. The file always opens with the "....:2" title.

This is mostly annoying. It has now happened with another workbook (different file). Does anyone know how to get rid of the extra-opening workbook? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Excel Facts

How to find 2nd largest value in a column?
MAX finds the largest value. =LARGE(A:A,2) will find the second largest. =SMALL(A:A,3) will find the third smallest
This happens when you (or someone) opens the file in a new window (Window menu\New Window).

Just close the window with the ":2" at the end of the title, and resave the file.
