I am not sure why I am not able to perform this now. I have the number in cell A1 as 532248950201317 and want to drag so cell A2 will increment to 532248950201318, cell A3 to 532248950201319, etc. What is happening is when I drag A1 it is not incrementing as thought it would. A2 still remains as 532248950201317. This is MS Office 2007 that I am usig and know I did not have this issue a little ways back when I wanted to do this. I appreciate any answer and thank you in advance. This should of been a simple operation to perform.

Excel Facts

Copy a format multiple times
Select a formatted range. Double-click the Format Painter (left side of Home tab). You can paste formatting multiple times. Esc to stop
You need to let Excel know you want sequential numbers before you start to drag. Do this by providing the first incremented number (in your example: 532248950201318) in the cell immediately below the one your number is in (A2). Then select both cells (A1:A2) and drag from the lower one (A2) down.

Thanks JoeMo,

Sorry, I meant to mention this as well that I had tried that, but for some reason it was just replicating Cells A1 and A2. What else am I possibly missing or possibly don't have set corrctly?

If the cells are formatted as TEXT then the number won't increment.

You could always put a formula in A2 with:

=A1+1

Then copy it down. If you don't want to have the formulas in there, you could select everything, choose copy, and then paste special > values.

Drag with the right button of your mouse instead of the left mouse button and select "Fill Series" from the pop-up window.

Thanks everyone I did finally get it working now. This was odd for me since I have never had an issue like this before for such a simple function.
