Hello,

I am hoping to create a drop down list (using data validation button in Excel 2007) and I want it to contain more than one hyperlink. I would like to create it without having to refer to a cell that already has a hyperlink. In other words, if i want to add or remove one of the hyperlinks, I would go into validation button only and be able to do the change.

I am also open to other simple solutions too that involve a drop down list.

Thanks

Excel Facts

Control Word Wrap
Press Alt+Enter to move to a new row in a cell. Lets you control where the words wrap.
You can use the =HYPERLINK() formula to create a hyperlink from strings, including other cells that have drop down selections.

OK, you're using confusing terms. You said you wanted a HYPERLINK based on a drop down selection. That's not what you mean?

You want a drop down list where the "source list" changes based on other cells?

Sory for the confusion,

I am working with documents located on a public drive (word, excel, pdf)

I already know that I can insert 3 hyperlinks into 3 cells, then use Validation to create a drop down menu that has 3 hyperlinks. But I am trying to avoid having to place the hyperlinks into a cell first, because I would have to create another spreadsheet (in my case) and put the hyperlink cells in there.

So conventional steps are:
create 3 hyperlinks in 3 cells, then create drop down list by refering to those cells.

simpler Steps that I am hoping to take:
create a drop down list directly without hyperlinks in a cell.

hope its more clear

When I create a drop down list using a range of other cells as the source, I do not get "hyperlinks" in the drop down. Do you? That must be an Excel 2007 feature I hadn't stumbled on yet, I'm still on 2003, but use Excel's converters to read/write 2007 formats.

Yes you are right, we don't get a hyperlink in drop down... even though I assumed it and didn't go far enough to actually click on it. keep me posted if you figure it out.

But the HYPERLINK() formula would let you create hyperlinks dynamically in the cell adjacent to your drop down.

HYPERLINK() is like any text function, you can take strings from other cell(s) and construct a viable hyperlink, so you choose an item in cell A1, then the "LINK" showing in B1 instantly becomes THAT hyperlink.

Read up on the HYPERLINK function and see if you can get it to work.

For me to help more specifically, you would need to show the full hyperlink that goes with 2-3 of your drop down options.
