Dynamic Named Range with INDEX that handles blanks and errors?

With the outstanding help of jonmo1, I created the following Dynamic named ranges:

Name: LastRow
Scope: Workbook
Refers to: =MATCH(2,1/(Combined!$A:$A<>""))

Name: ColO
Scope: Workbook
Refers to: =Combined!$O$2:INDEX(Combined!$O:$O,Combined!LastRow)

Name: ColP
Scope: Workbook
Refers to: =Combined!$P$2:INDEX(Combined!$P:$P,Combined!LastRow)

Name: ColS
Scope: Workbook
Refers to: =Combined!$S$2:INDEX(Combined!$S:$S,Combined!LastRow)

On the sheet named "Combined", Column "A" will NEVER have blank cells, or errors, within the contiguous range of used cells.

However, Columns O,P, and S can have Blanks or Errors.

My question is- is there a way to write within the "refers to:" formula to handle these blanks and errors using ISERROR and ISBLANK?

What type of data is in this column? Is it text? Numeric? Could be both?

What if the last row contains an error? I guess you'd want exclude that as the last row?

What do you mean "handle blanks"?
Do you want the range returned to include all the blank cells (including the ones at the bottom)
Do you want the bottoms cell to have no blank but perhaps blanks above it.
Do you want the range returned to be only those cells that aren't blank?

My learning curve is pretty steep on Dynamic Named Ranges (DNRs).

The DNRs in the first post of this thread are used on a second sheet within the workbook in this formula:

=AVERAGEIFS(ColP,ColO,">30-Sep-10",ColO,"<1-Jan-11",ColS,"1")

(Column O contains dates, and may have blanks)

I realize that If a cell in a criteria range is empty, AVERAGEIFS treats it as a 0 value.

What I was concerned about is that the INDEX formulas in my DNRs may skew the output to the AVERAGEIFS formula if there are blanks.

is that a valid concern, or am I chasing ghosts?

You are using dynamic named RANGES.
If you construct a range that omits blank cells, your named range will be a discontinuous range.
Excel does not deal with discontinuous ranges gracefully.

If blank cells need to be ignored by AVERAGEIF or other functions, the time to exlclude them is not at the point of range definition, but at the time the formula is constructed.

As far as I know the AVERAGEIFS function ignores empty cells when they are being evaluated for a numerical value. For example:

=AVERAGEIFS(C1:C10,A1:A10,"<100",B1:B10,"x")

AVERAGEIFS returns the correct result ignoring the empty criteria cells A5 and A6.

That's an excellent example T.Valko-

It will make it easier for me to explain to a couple other folks in my office.

I included a column showing the Column "C" values that meet BOTH the criteria sets and a column that shows the values that meet Only the "X" criteria for Column "B" so I can easily show the difference.
