edit: change date format

I've already tried to use format cells. It doesn't change the date type. I've also tried to create a new column, format it to the desired date format, and tried to copy and paste some undesired date formatted cells into it.

Not quite sure if this is a reposting, but sounds like you have text representations of numbers (e.g., "10"). After selecting the values, use the Data | Text to Columns... menu command, and [ Finish ].
