Editing + inserting columns but static rows

This seems basic but all the topics I see mention locking cells and protecting sheets or some hoopla about freezing panes. It's possible I'm not doing it right but I have not successfully applied either route to my needs. What I need is the following:

I have a table where the top couple rows have cell specific scripts that I don't want myself or anyone else to mess up by shifting the cells left or right if inserting a column. However, the cells in between are meant to be edited and further down the spreadsheet inserting columns is occasionally necessary, so I cannot lock the cells or rows.

Is there a way to make inserting columns not shift certain cells but allow formatting + editing of those rows?
