Encryption of folder with Add-In

I've been looking at protecting VBA code from theft and so far it looks like the only real source of protection is to setup a relationship with a new code such as C#.
Realistically I can't see this working ... once you get to the details, without being an expert programmer.
I was wondering if this would work - If the code is in an Add-In, and the addin folder is encrypted.
If so ... (1) Is the level of security higher than password protection offered in Excel (2) Will the addin run from an encrypted folder.

No, this wouldn't work - you'd need to store the key to decrypt the code somewhere - probably in Excel which gets you back to square 1.

I'm glad you responded since I also read your comments on this thread.
Unviewable+ for excel vba protection

The suggestion was to have an addin that compiles. I'm guessing "compile" requires expert knowledge of other code languages.

What are the options left to someone with knowledge of VBA only?
Do you recommend any of the proprietary software?

No, I can't recommend anything. I've never seen anything that isn't trivial to bypass unless you want to wrap your workbook in an EXE - but there are problems with that as well.

Yes, compiles in that context means write your code in another language - not VBA. This would be re-write, you can't automate this, though anything you do in VBA is possible in other languages

Thanks for responding.
Can you point me in a direction with respect to the EXE, and what the problems are. If there is some literature please send me a link.
