Hi
i am using the formula but its not working. request you to please help me.

=IF(SEARCH("index",A4,1)>1,"Index",IF(SEARCH("incre",A4,1)>1,"Index","Non Index"))

Excel Facts

Select all contiguous cells
Pressing Ctrl+* (asterisk) will select the "current region" - all contiguous cells in all directions.
Try

=IF(ISNUMBER(SEARCH("index",A4)),"Index",IF(ISNUMBER(SEARCH("incre",A4)),"Index","Non Index"))

Have you tried the formula of VoG I think it does the same thing but...
If you are looking after a cell not a range it could be like this..

=If (A4="index","Index",If(A4="incre","Not index","Not in Choices"))

if you are searching within range then you should specify a range.
