I get an error message on a certain worksheet I use to calculate inventory. No other worksheets in the workbook give me the same message, they seem to work perfectly. When I right click to insert a column/row, the error message says I need to clear all of the space to the right and below because it cannot shift non-blank cells off the worksheet. I do what it tells me, but it still gives me the error message.

Excel Facts

Will the fill handle fill 1, 2, 3?
Yes! Type 1 in a cell. Hold down Ctrl while you drag the fill handle.
bherndon,

Welcome to the board :)

Have You checked column IV if there exist any values and in row 65536?

If You are sure that You have not put any data in this column or row the easiest way is to delete them and then try to insert again.

Another possible situation is that You need to reset the last used cell. Check out the free ASAP utility that has this tool included.

I cannot delete the data because it has existing information in it that I need to keep. How do I reset the last used cell?

bherndon,

Do You mean that You have data in the last column och the last row? If so is it possible for You to move the data elsewhere?

XL is limit to 256 columns & 65536 rows and if we keep data in the last column/row XL cannot insert a new column / row.

Reset last used range is either done by VBA-code, for instance ActiveSheet.UsedRange or by a third-part tool like the free ASAP-utility :)
